When you’re making a character you get to choose between woman, man and non-binary as well as realistic or anime. The realistic characters aren’t the strong point of the WeMate AI generator and the anime ones look more realistic. Yes, I just said that the catgirls and Lolis look more realistic than real people. There are options to keep them private or share them publicly, it depends on how much of a jealous control freak you are I guess. 

The character definition consists of the personality, welcome message, behavior, relationship and appearance. You also describe the scenario. Despite all this and the photo generator, you can’t actually use WeMate.ai to generate the avatar pic. It’s a pain in the ass needing to find a pic from another site when one of the main features here is their in-chat generator. That’s why when you’re browsing characters you’ll see some hotties, pics from real-life porn videos, hand-drawn characters and the classic AI image gone wrong. It’s worth trying anyone if you’re paying – you might like the voice they have. But when you make your own character there’s no option to select their voice. It’s all up to the AI gods.

I’ve got some mixed feelings about Wemate.ai. The conversations don’t feel long enough to get into the action and the descriptive text is missing, so it’s less immersive than I want.

But there are so many characters on offer, and being able to generate images is a big win. If you have a specific scenario in mind, good luck. There are no tags or filters you can use to narrow in with your search, it’s all luck-based and you can only pick between Staff Pick and Trending. There isn’t even a search bar. The avatars give you enough info like the name, relationship and a full-on character card once you click through, but having no tags is a terrible choice. Better to make your own, and when you start a chat that character is saved in your profile for easy use later on.
